Soldier come, soldier go, barracks remain!

This is basically what has happened so far, with the Nollywood industry.

Just in 2019, the industry lost quite a lot of talented personalities to the cold hands of death. These Nollywood stars that passed away in 2019 include practitioners from different tribes and sectors of the Nigerian movie industry.

Nollywood started recording deaths of its practitioners in 2019 with the death of popular Yoruba actor, Gbenga ‘Burger’ Akintunde on January 3. While most of the deceased are of the male gender, three women also passed on, leaving their loved ones and colleagues to mourn.

The year 2019 is almost over, and we have decided to honour the departed souls by reminding Nigerians about the circumstances of their death, and how long they lived.

1. Funmilayo ‘Ijewuru’ Ogunsola

Veteran Yoruba actress, Funmilayo Ogunsola, popularly known as Ijewuru, passed away in Ibadan, Oyo state. The actress reportedly died on Monday, February 4, after she had a heart attack at her residence in Ibadan.

Ijewuru was one of the wives of late veteran actor, Olusola Ishola Ogunsola, popularly known as Isho Pepper. One of her loved ones who was obviously heartbroken by the news took to her facebook page to share the sad news.

As seen on the page of Adebisi Olasumbo Ogunsola, late Funmilayo Ogunsola was very good, prayerful and friendly. Adebisi went on to ask God to forgive Funmilayo of all her shortcomings.

Late Funmilayo Ogunsola was aged 58.

According to her friend, Omolola Olumide, who announced her death, Bisketpassed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019, just 10 days after welcoming her new baby at age 47.

Before her death, Bisket was the CEO of Bisket Movie Concept. The late actress and producer was also a member of the Lagos Island branch of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria, TAMPAN.

3. Binta Kofar Soro

Binta Kofar Soro died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Kofar Soro who usually played ‘motherly’ roles in Kannywood movies was immediately buried in her hometown, Kano. She was 50 years old.

A close ally to the deceased, Nuhu Abdullahi, who is also a Kannywood actor, confirmed the death of the actress.

According to Mr Abdullah, the Kannywood movie industry was shocked over her demise of the actress. He went on to stress the fact that she will be greatly missed in the industry as she didn’t present herself as just an actress, but as also a mother to the entire members of the Kannywood movie industry.

He said:

“Hajiya Binta Soron Dinki is one actress that we all like to work with. Her role has always been motherly. Apart from just acting, she is always there to correct you as a mother. The whole Kannywood is mourning,”Mr Abdullahi said.

This is so sad! Nollywood has lost so many talents in the industry to the cold hands of death, and all of them would be missed and remembered in the hearts of fans.
